Canyoning

Go for a different type of hike, one where you’re allowed to jump in puddles (well deep pools actually), scramble over rocks & slide down natural chutes without worrying about getting soaked or dirty!

Canyoning takes you down ravines into areas most people never get to see. You follow the river’s natural course & make the most of everything it has to offer, from natural flumes to abseiling down thundering waterfalls. Going with an english speaking guide you’ll be taught how to negotiate the slippery rocks, how & where to jump safely, which chutes are good to slide down & how to walk confidently down the canyon.

We recommend everyone to take our short quiz to double check canyoning’s for you - while many people love the opportunity to learn more about abseiling, jumping & sliding your way through a gorge, for others it’s less fun! Our quiz will help you to work out if this activity is for you: Canyoning Quiz - prepare yourself!

Frogs Rafting provide wetsuits, ropes, harnesses & helmets, as well as transport to & from the canyon. Guests should bring a pair of sturdy trainers (or let us know if you don’t have any: we may be able to provide some if we know your size).

Our Canyoning Trips

Nyon - Morzine

When you're equipped in wetsuit, harness and helmet, you'll have an initial safety briefing before walking down to start the canyon.  Additional safety talks happen throughout the descent so you're not obliged to take it all on at once!  The activity is more demanding that many people realise.  It's worth double checking you're aware of what you're letting yourself in for by doing our quick quiz.

Foron de Taninges

Tried canyoning already & curious to learn more? Are you curious about knots & securing yourself with ropes & how to move around the canyon like your spider-man guide? Often, when you’ve tried canyoning once & enjoyed it, getting any further with the activity can be frustrating: it’s rare to find somewhere where beginners can take the time to learn the skills, or someone who’s willing to teach you. Or perhaps you’d just like to experience a different canyon? Last summer we bolted a canyon near Morzine with the aim of teaching new canyoners the basic skills & allowing a bit more time to practice what you’ve learned, giving people the confidence to manipulate & understand the rope skills & read the water depth & currents.

The Foron de Taninges is about a 30min drive from Morzine & when you get there, you’ll be kitted out in wetsuit, helmet & harness. You’ll be taken to the canyon (you can even have a shot carrying the rope bag!) & then taught how to read the canyoning typogarpht, where to find necessary info & how to interpret it according to your level. Practically, you’ll learn about how to secure yourself to abseil, how to assess the possibility & dangers of jumps & slides & how best to get yourself down a canyon.
